Cities & Hometowns

Protecting our environment isn’t limited to forests and wild spaces -- it’s also about making our communities greener, cleaner and better places to live, work and play.

Everyone should have the right to live in a clean, safe and healthy community, but industrial pollution and auto emissions have polluted our cities and suburbs. In rural communities, agricultural pollution, sewage, and other contaminants pollute our water supplies and fuel toxic algae blooms.

We believe Michigan can do better. We want to see our cities, suburbs and rural communities become healthier and more sustainable places to live. Many of MEC’s programs aim to create stronger, more resilient communities. We work to lower energy bills; promote clean energy; protect drinking water; and encourage mass transit and other transportation solutions to make it easier, cleaner and safer for everyone to get around.
