Clean Water

Surrounded by the world’s greatest freshwater treasure, you can bet that protecting the Great Lakes and Michigan’s inland waters will always be at the heart of MEC’s mission.

Stories about aging oil pipelines in the Straits of Mackinac, the poisoning of Flint’s water supply and the rise of harmful algae blooms in Lake Erie paint a picture of a state that takes its greatest natural treasure -- fresh water -- for granted.

Our state’s policies don’t give our fresh water the respect it deserves.  From source to tap, MEC and our partners are leading the charge in protecting our waterways and drinking water from industrial and agricultural pollution, as well as oil spills -- for our benefit and that of future generations, but also for the protection of wildlife and to sustain Michigan’s reputation as a premier outdoor recreation destination.
