    AFFEW's mission is to provide visitors and residents with information regarding environmental issues having local importance by promoting public awareness, hosting balanced discussions, providing referrals to other organizations, and sponsoring activities which promote a healthier ecosystem.

    To preserve, protect and enhance the Au Sable River System for future generations of fly fishers.

  • Au Sable River Watershed Committee

    Preserve, protect and enhance the Au Sable River Watershed. The Committee will strive to accomplish this by providing a forum for Committee partners to communicate with each other and coordinate project activities. As advocates for the watershed, the Committee will provide assistance to partners' projects when needed and provide remedial actions when there are identified conservation needs not being addressed by any partner.

    The Committee was previously under the umbrella of Huron Pines and was called the Au Sable River Watershed Restoration Committee.

    We work with people to build a thriving local farm and food economy; to make our towns and villages stronger, more walkable, bike-able, and transit-friendly; and to develop local, clean energy. We seek to achieve on-the-ground results in northwest Michigan and leverage them to support other communities and improvements to state policy. All of this is designed to strengthen the local economy, protect the environment, and build community.

    The Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council is the voice for Northern Michigan waters. We are dedicated to protecting our lakes, streams, wetlands, and groundwater through respected advocacy, innovative education, technically sound water quality monitoring, and thorough research. We achieve our mission by empowering others and believe in the capacity to make a positive difference. We work locally, regionally and through the Great Lakes Basin to achieve our goals.
