Jerome joined the Environmental Council Board of Directors in 2022.

He is an expert in civil rights and justice who helps shape legislation and policy in Michigan.

Previously, Jerome had a 25-year career as a civil rights attorney, where his specialties were public policy, nonprofit management, and civil rights. Among his proudest accomplishments were winning a high-profile case on police brutality and advocating for voting rights.

The mid-Michigan resident has also served as director of Justice Initiatives for the State Bar of Michigan, as the Midwest regional field director for the NAACP, as an interdisciplinary faculty member, and as an investigative TV reporter and producer.

Rounding out his work experiences are a bachelor's degree in sociology from SUNY New Paltz; master's degrees in journalism and political science from Columbia University and Michigan State University, respectively; a juris doctor from Hofstra University; and a political science doctorate from Michigan State.

In addition to his role with the Environmental Council, Jerome also serves on the board of the Beckwith Civil Liberties Fund, serves on the board of the Sugar Law Center, and is a consultant for International Humanitarian Services.
